QT8616 Ethernet IP connection is more reliable than the BNC connector models, September 8, 2015

This QT8616 has a much improved camera cable connection! Previously I was using the QT5682 model which has BNC cable connectors on the back, and I permanently had tribulations with the video image becoming distorted with the slightest bump of the desk that the DVR sits on. The BNC connectors in the lower Q-See models have a manufacturing issue so they tend to get loose (it is so common, someone made a YouTube video about how to bend the connector to make a tighter fit).

Now with the Ethernet IP connection on the QT8616, the HD video is rock solid and I don’t have to worry about bumping the desk. I used the existing analog camera cables to pull the provided Ethernet cables through the wall. If you get one of these newer IP models and initiation with Ethernet cables in the walls, this will be a future-proof installation and save some headache later so you don’t have to run new wires.

The included cameras use a 1/3″ Sony image sensor which provides better quality than most cameras that come in bundled DVR kits.

I like using the QTView iPhone app most of the time (also facility with iPad and Android), and you can also connect a show directly to the NVR or use the Windows attention. The Q-See Windows software is decent (although Milestone XProtect recording software remains my pet).

If you’re looking for the manufactured goods manual to download from the Q-See website, as of this writing the common manual still shows the corporal layout of only the older units. So here is an image showing the connector configuration on the back of this newest unit.

Very high quality video logic – NOT wireless, October 8, 2015

Initially when I saw the IP description I said this to be a wireless video camera logic. I was incorrect, this logic uses cables to provide power, mic and audio HOWEVER it can also use just an Ethernet cable to feed this data back to the DVR. A 3 TB hard drive is included for ample storage needs. This setup comes with 8 cameras yet it is capable of handling 32 cameras which can be bought separately. I really like the alert feature – the logic will alert you if it loses a camera feed. NICE ! 5 stars, this is the perfect solution for the large home or the smaller to midsize office background.

This is a fantastic security camera logic. I really agree with other reviewers that this logic could be over kill for most normal residential. By “normal”, I predestined if your house is 3000 sqft or less. The cameras are high pledge and cover a large area, so you may only need 4 or 5 cameras to cover the exterior.

The most significant improvements of this logic contain using Cat-5 network cable for the cameras, not the fixed, flimsy video/power cable supplied for home logic. With network cable, you can have much longer length and make it yourself with some tools. With the other cable, you may have to resort to premade cable and sometimes they are too small or too long. Connectors are available, but it is recommended not to use connectors for video cable. The end connectors on network cable are also much better than RCA plugs. Click it in and never have to worry about they come off fortuitously.

Again, I chose to have an installer to run the cables for me. Spending half a day in the attic with insulation dusts and crammed space is somehow no longer striking to me anymore. The guy worked much quicker and had the right tools, so he finished the cable job in only a link of hours. Money’s well spent, in my opinion. As a side benefit, he also ran a link of network lines to my kitchen and family room. Judge me, video streaming is day and night between wireless and wired network!

By using network connection and network capable camera, you can now make possible motion detecting for particular camera. This capability is either all or nothing on other lesser capability systems. It is a bit more configurations you have to do, but it is expected with additional capabilities. The rest of the set up is much the same if you have this type of logic before: connect to your home network to allocate access from the internet and local LAN, set up security access..

The camera is 3MP and can capture 1080p video. Keep in mind that for most people, 3MP is about all you need for digital image even we live in the crazy world that the more mega pixel the better. You can really take a portrait with 3MP. So you can actualy read a license plate of a car park accross the road.

If you are serious (or just simply have to have the best) about security camera, by all means look into this logic. What made it above and further than other systems are network cable connection, selective motion detecting and high pledge cameras. Looks excellent too!
