    Very nice security camera logic. I replaced my 4-camera, low pledge L**X camera logic with this, and it is a game changer. Several significant improvements that I noted:

    Privileged pledge camera – Some logic claimed to have HD camera, but in reality they are just 800×600 image maximum. My current logic has standard pledge, so this right HD is a huge improvement.

    Cable hidden in camera – grant that nothing is 100 percent secured; terrible guys can place a cap over the camera from behind and you are toasted, if the camera mounted low to the ground. Exposed cable is another vulnerability, it can be cut with a simple pair of scissors. This will make it a small harder for thieves.

    Simple of internet access – scan the barcode with your smartphone and you here; no complicated router reconfiguring and manual entries.

    As with most security camera systems, running the wires was the toughest task. I did it myself, but you can hire someone to do it, which is much quicker and probably well worth the money! Then it was just a matter of locate your DVR/control logic at a place that you have wired network access (if you want remote viewing/accessing) and proper power source as it will power all your cameras too. Turn it on and initiation watching your house/business. Some ahead plotting is recommended, as you want the cameras to cover the entire house and no dead spots. The logic I judge will record an entire week of videos and write over the oldest one when the internal disk is full.

    This logic also support motion detection, but for all the cameras. I wish I could turn on motion detection for just one or two cameras, as one of mine pointed to the road in front of the house. You can get an email when motion is detected if it is turned on.

    It is a excellent logic, decent price for what it does and simple to set up. I like it.

    A Lot of The makings, Nice Hardware, But Not Quite Equipped for Fill in Time, September 29, 2015

    This manufactured goods has a lot of the makings, but unfortunately it is just not quite here yet. The cameras and video quality are exceptional, but for a manufactured goods that costs over $700, the support and faultless operation that must be here isn’t.

    === The Excellent Stuff ===

    * With a few glitches, setup was honestly simple…ignoring the fun and games of running wires. The logic comes with a wiring kit, but I finished up using my own wiring and power supplies. I had a spool of RG6 left over from another project, and I just felt better using this than the wire that came with the cameras. Also, a link left over power supplies let me give each camera its own power source and I didn’t have to worry about drop in the lines. The setup of the actual logic went pretty much as the quick install guide indicated.

    * The picture quality is quite excellent. I have one camera mounted about 120′ from my front gate, and you can still make out quite a bit of detail. Not quite license plates, but close. If you play around long enough with the setup, you can configure cameras to only record motion, have a programmed “tour” of camera angles shown on the main monitor, or set fixed times for recording. I also configured the DVR to send video to my iPhone, and this worked with a simple button push.

    * The cameras mounted easily and disappeared into the white eaves of my house. The motion sensors on the camera seems pretty sensitive, and I am not quite sure if it is adjustable or not. As it is, it picks up traffic at about 150′. It does not grow that you can disable motion for a single camera, although I am still banging my head against the interface.

    * The unit ships honestly complete. It includes an HDMI cable, a mouse for controlling the user interface, everything you would need to wire the included cameras—at least for 50′ or so, an ethernet cable and power supplies.

    === The Not-So-Excellent Stuff ===

    * For a manufactured goods of this price point, the documentation is horrible, bordering on non-existent. Only a minimal quick-initiation guide ships with the logic, everything else is supposed to be on-line….except that it isn’t. The Q-See website shows no documents for this model, and here seem to be some differences between the ones that are here and this one. The “search” function on the website borders on useless.

    As an example, I had what I thought was a simple question. How do you delete video that has been recorded? Here is certainly no obvious way that I could find to do it from the interface. Typing “delete” into the search feature on the support website brings a set of hits about everything but. Here is no users guide or manual for this manufactured goods, and trying the other ones points to menus or boxes that my software just doesn’t have.

    * The tech support is a joke. Here are three options, email, touchtone phone and chat. I figured I would pose my delete file question to one of them. I started with the chat. I was second in the queue for about 45 minutes when I finally gave up. Next I tried the phone support. After being on hold for 20 minutes, I figured I would just push 1 to “place a message which will be answered by 7:00 tonight”. Of course the mailbox was full, so you couldn’t place a message. An email was never answered after at least three days.

    * The DVR has quite a bit of fan blast-probably not something I want in my living room. That sort of messed up my plans to use the TV as the video monitor. (Video out is through either HDMI or VGA).

    * The user interface was a bit fussy and clumsy. With the exception of deleting files, I reckon I figured out most everything else. but here sure are a lot of small icons (many without help bubbles) to deal with. The iPhone app has the same problem, although most of them are sort of intuitive. As near as I can map, the DVR will either support iOS, Android, or PC/MAC interfaces, but only one. That may be a function of the auto-configure, and may be negotiable if you are willing to play around with all the firewall and network settings,

    * Here are a number of passwords on both the Q-SEE websites and the hardware itself, as well as usernames and camera names. It is not permanently obvious what goes in which blank on the config menus.

    === Synopsis ===

    Here is a lot of the makings in this logic, but I honestly reckon it needed another month of so of debug, and certainly more time spent with documentation. If you are a reasonably competent PC setter-upper (say, an NAS device), you will probably get through 90% of the setup with no problem. Excellent luck if you need tech support. The images are clear, and the hardware seems to work well.

    After seeing the level of polish of the user interface, I do have some security concerns. For this reason, none of the cameras will be used indoors for the time being.

    What a difference!!!, September 18, 2015

    I was thrilled to receive this set and had high hopes for improvement. My husband bought a Night Owl for me for Christmas a few years ago, but one camera never worked right, another one delivered a shaky picture, and night vision was mediocre at best. Forget recognizing anyone further than 10 feet. Also, the remote quit working right after the warranty expired, and I could never map out how to connect that thing so I could monitor from my cell phone.
    This Q-See QC918-8Y6-2 8 Channel logic is a real eye opener! I mean literally, I can SEE at night, and not just fuzzy shapes.
    Setup was rather simple. I was able to utilize the wires from the previous logic to pull the new lines through. Mounting the cameras was simple since I just had to swap them out.
    And then came night… What a difference! I can SEE now who is walking by, I can really make out faces now.
    Connecting to my cell couldn’t be simpler, just scan the bar code and done.
    Tme will tell how long the cameras will last. I hope that I will get years of service out of this logic.
