Fantastic NVR for home, but not compatible with other brand cameras,
1. The NVR is very simple to set up, so long as you use QSEE cameras too. When using QSEE cameras, just plug them in, and everything is plug and play. All of my QSEE cameras work very well. HOWEVER, even though the manual says it facility with other ONVIF cameras, this is simply not right. I tried other ONVIF cameras made by Axis, and the NVR could NOT recognize the cameras. I even called QSEE to question about this and engineers at QSEE said that the NVR is NOT compliant with the newer version of ONVIF (which is odd, because ONVIF is backward compatible).
2. The NVR includes 8 PoE ports, and everything facility as expected. Just run a single Cat 5 cable to each camera, and the camera facility fine.
3. The software on the NVR itself is a bit clunky and not very user friendly. But, putting that aside, the software woks for its intended purpose so I can overlook the fact that the interface looks like a 1970’s pong game. You can very easily go back and review older videos, intermission videos, zoom in, take screen captures, and export video to a memory stick. It may not be as sophisticated as a Vegas casino surveillance NVR, but it facility just fine for a home or small business.
4. Remote access: I can very easily access the NVR via ipod/ipad apps, and through Internet Explorer (but not Chrome). In many respects, the user interface on the iphone and/or IE is much better than the user interface on the NVR itself. The app is honestly simple to set up, but setting up the remote access through IE is a bit hard. The instructions are pretty much nonexistent. Basically, if you are in IE and you want to access the NVR you enter the address as follows: “http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:YY, everywhere “xxx” is the IP address and “YY” is the port. The instructions fail to mention that you need to contain the port at the end of the IP address to access the NVR. I had to map this out on my own.
5. If your internet access has a dynamic IP address (e.g., most of Comcast or Verizon connections), you can use a dynamic DNS service provided by QSEE. Just link the NVR to the DDNS service, and you then can access your NVR from anywhere on the globe (I’ve accessed the NVR in several other countries around the world).
