I am using with 4 HIKVision 2 Megapixel cameras rather than the Q-See model. Setup was a bit confusing, but overall seems to work well. Auto-scan for cameras didn’t seem to work until I “primed” it with the first camera. Doesn’t seem to support ipv6 for the main network address. Didn’t try ipv6 on the internal DHCP server which handles the internal 8-port switch. To go to the full 16 cameras you will need an external switch or the cameras on the external network side. I haven’t found how to address the camera directly from the network side which would be useful for changing the camera configuration (can probably do it by connecting the computer to the internal switch, but haven’t verified this.) I configured the cameras before attaching to the DVR. Four 1080P cameras can record about 2 weeks on a 2 GB hard drive. Adding a second drive involved disassembly, but was straight forward. Uses “surveillance” type SATA drives.

Five stars for this qt8216 nvr. My ancient qcxxx died. The four 720p cameras I have work with this nvr. I did have to contact q-see support. They dialed into my windows 7 machine and let me know the passwords on the 720p cameras were incorrect. They fixed them and now they all work. This qt8216 is smart! I took a picture of the square barcode on the nvr with my iPhone with the q-see qt app and it configured it instantly on my iPhone. Very powerful to the non-technical consumer. I bought the squaretrade warranty thru amazon and am very pleased. Most vital to me was the rewind and view feature of this nvr. The police came over a few months ago and wanted to see some footage. The older unit was lacking, but this nvr lets you pick the time and date and can quick forward at 16x speeds. I did a test two days ok and it was very simple.
