I bought this unit to replace a 2 year ancient Q-See DVR that had become unusable due to constant restarting. This model 304 has a nice compact corporal design but the software is so horrendous it makes me want to scream at the programmer. To review footage through the local network or in the least via a browser is nearly impossible. The function to download (backup) files to a PC or Mac on the same network is not usable. When I was able get an external drive to backup the video files, the best option is .asf format which is archaic and I had distress finding a video player that would easily review them. The files caused errors on all usually available video player software. After we were burglarized it took days of my life to simply review footage. I only recommend buying this if you are an expert using your own software.
