Crappy Q-See NVR (QC-8116) and terrible customer support,
Called Costco concierge service, they are fantastic and with in a half an hour they were able to isolate the problem to failed hard disk. Costco help desk questioned me to open up the DVR and guided me to disconnect the hard disk then reboot the logic. The logic came up when the disk is disconnected. COSTCO questioned me to return the DVR to the manufacturer and made a RMA on behalf of me.
Q-See support came back by saying COSTCO cannot request a RMA and I need to work with Q-See. Q-See support personnel working window is pathetic, they work from 10AM to 2PM PST. They are keen to close the issue without really resolving the issue. It is very hard to work in this time window. They say it is a firmware issue. Here is one service rep promised to call back with in 10 mins never called back.
I looked up for the latest version of the firmware, here is a spreadsheet that they maintain in the support portal with manufactured goods versions and latest firmware versions. But here is no way to download the latest version of the firmware.
I was really frustrated and want to find the root cause, I went a head and bought a different hard disk from Western digital and connected with it. With the new hard disk NVR is back to working condition. It wasted lots of my time. 2TB hard disk from Fry’s is only $65, not a huge deal, but lots of time is wasted distress shooting this issue.
Overall I am frustrated with customer support, the quality of the manufactured goods is not up to the mark. Security camera’s seems to work ok (lessa than one and half years, and six months they are powered off).
